A while back, I mentioned that JoAnn Fabrics was now carrying a line for DIY cloth diapers and I was super excited about them. I began cloth diapering with my first child around 3 months, and really wanted to start at birth with baby #2. But since babies only wear newborn diapers for 4-12 weeks (depending on the size of your child), I didn’t want to spend money on purchasing some newborn cloth diapers that would barely get worn. I figured I could save some money if I made my own and thought this might be the answer I was looking for.

Mixing stripes & florals
I am officially on the hunt for a striped top and full floral skirt. These pics gave me all the inspiration and motivation I needed:

Mixing prints has always been a favorite of mine, and this look screams feminine. So I went on the virtual hunt for some items to mimic these looks, and here’s what I came up with:
Life lately {Instagram style}
WIWW: Blouse refashion & printed denim
This weekend I went back to my fashion college roots and refashioned an old shirt that I’ve had hanging in my closet forever. As I chopped off the sleeves, I had visions of creating patterns for paper bag pants and showing off with my straight seams in sewing class (yeah, I was that student). It’s been a long time since I used my sewing machine to fix up my clothing; I generally hate hemming, mending, and sewing clothes. But I have had this H&M shirt for a couple of years now, and I was getting really bored with it so I decided it was time for a change.
Magnetic photo strip display
I planned on doing so many things this weekend (inlcuding my book storage tray), but this display is the only crafty thing I actually accomplished. Oops.
Anyway, I’ve been collecting photo strips for years now; the first one being when my husband and I first started dating. Now we get them taken with our kids when we visit the fair, or anywhere else we run across a photo booth. I haven’t been able to figure out a way to display them until now.
Easy weekend home DIY project
I’m totally obsessing over this DIY project that I came across on Apartment Therapy this week. And by obsessing, I mean, I actually dreamt about it. I’ve got it bad, people.
WIWW: Sheer chiffon blouse
I haven’t done a What I Wore Wednesday post in a few weeks… mostly because I’m too tired to get outside and photograph myself when the stars align and both kids are simultaneously napping. By that time, I’m usually covered in spit-up and/or breast milk anyway. TMI? Sorry.
Anywho, I finally got around to taking some photos of one of my favorite outfits as of late. Let’s start with my inspiration; the idea came from this photo that I found on Pinterest a few months ago:
Individual chicken pot pie recipe
I get pre-cooked chickens quite frequently from Costco, because at only $5 I can’t resist. If I am careful, I can get three meals out of one chicken for my family of 3. Because I like to shred it to get more mileage from one chicken, I’ve come up with lots of leftover chicken recipes. You can see those here
One night after bringing home a chicken, I had a craving for pot pie so I came up with a recipe using what I had on hand. I thought I would share it with you, but just know that I sort of threw it together, so the measurements are approximations and it’s a loose interpretation. But don’t worry; what’s great about this recipe is that you can pretty much wing it and it will still turn out great. The great thing about the individual cups is that it cooks faster than your average whole pie, and it creates perfect serving sizes for kids and for leftovers the next day.
So here we go…
Get rid of cable: A simple how-to
My husband and I gave up on any kind of cable or dish service a few years ago when we could no longer afford it. Lucky for me, my husband is super smart about these things and a bit of tech-nerd (but a cute tech-nerd!), and he figured out ways for us to still enjoy some of the perks of cable and DVR without having either.
Since then, we’ve shared our secrets with lots of friends and family so they, too, could happily get rid of their cable bill. I’ve been seeing a lot of people asking questions on the internet lately about how to make the transition, so I thought I would share what we do.
In honor of summer picnics…
Did you know that August is national picnic month? Well, in honor of all things picnic, I’ve come up with a little wish list. If I were going on a picnic (which, quite frankly, I don’t do often enough), I would want some of these things in my arsenal:
