Every holiday seems like a whirlwind, and by the time you remember to pick up your camera, the kids are just about ready for bed (at least that’s what always happens to me). I find it super helpful to have a checklist handy before going into the day so that I will remember to get some decent photos BEFORE the kids are covered in food and dirt and I looked disheveled and drooled on.
I’m still working on how best to document yearly events – like pumpkin carving – through photography. I like to make sure I capture the entirety of the event, taking pictures throughout. I tend to take less artsy photos of the details and focus more on my kids, and I think that’s ok. Here are…
I did some weekend crafting and created these washi tape magnets | Although she doesn’t look it, our girl was super excited to start Preschool | For my dad’s 64th birthday, I took him on a tour of Angel Stadium
Kids sure do love ice cream | These two warm my heart! | I tried a Pinterest recipe for eggless cookie dough you can eat without baking – amazing!
Me & my girl playing in the backyard | Pool time! (It’s been extra hot here lately) | Why are there always dirty dishes in my sink?

I love having a girl. I can remember being a girly-girl to the core growing up. I loved Barbies, doing my hair, wearing dresses and skirts, and I wanted to be a dancer or a gymnast… Seeing my daughter love some of these same things warms my heart and makes me nostalgic.
How was your 4th of July? We had a lot of fun celebrating at our friend’s house; we ate, lit fireworks, watched the kids play on the Slip & Slide, relaxed, ate some more…
Before we went, I made sure to brush up on how to photograph fireworks so I could get some awesome shot. I found this great tutorial from www.merakoh.com that explains what settings to use for fireworks and sparklers. For these photos, I had my camera on manual mode, set to 200 iso, 4 second shutter speed, and F11 aperture:
