Now that I live far from friends and family (read about our move here), it’s the first time that I’ve had to send gifts in the mail. I decided to mail some desserts and goodies to friends and family as part of their gift (because who doesn’t love to get homemade food in the mail during Christmastime?), so I starting searching for ideas on cute and mail-safe packaging.
I’m a sucker for cute packaging… I get lost in Michael’s looking at labels, twine, paper bags of all sizes… it’s a pathetic and thrilling addiction and I am not ashamed. Well, maybe a little ashamed. But whatever floats your boat, right?
Anyhoo, I found some super cute ideas on how to package up homemade goods for the holidays and thought you might like to see some in order to get your creative juices flowing, too. Here are some of my favorite ways to package up desserts & treats for the holidays (especially if your putting them in a box):
Christmas Dessert Packaging Ideas
- Giant button boxes
- CD cookie cases
- Simple disposable containers
- Berry baskets & cellophane
- Perfect use of doilies
SHIPPING TIPS: To keep things fresh, consider sending them overnight or with two-day shipping, and you might want to put them in a ziploc bag before putting them in their packaging. Be sure and pack your box well with tissue paper or bubble wrap so that your desserts don’t end up in pieces by the time they arrive! You might also consider freezing them and placing them in the box frozen. This will keep them fresh longer and they’ll be thawed by the time they arrive.
Free Christmas Dessert Tag Download
I also created a free tag download for you all, in case you wanted a little something to tie to your treats and desserts. I used a version of this last year and printed it in black and white on kraft paper. I’ve included a simple design and one that’s a bit fancier. Either way, it’s a super cute addition to any Christmas dessert packaging!
