My 2 1/2 year old loves cowboys. I’m not even sure where the obsession first began, but she started running around with anything she could find that was similar to a rope and yelling, “Yee-haw, I a cowboy!”
So naturally, I figured making her a cowgirl for Halloween would be simple; she wouldn’t throw a fit about wearing it and might even enjoy it! I went to work finding some affordable items for her costume, including items that she can reuse after the holiday. It turns out Old Navy was the perfect place to purchase most of the clothing items, and she’ll get plenty of use out of them.
Here’s how you can make an affordable DIY cowgirl costume for your little one:
1. Plaid shirt (Old Navy, $15 sale price)
2. Straw cowboy hat (Amazon – only $3.41!)
3. Denim skirt (Old Navy, $10 sale price)
4. Western cowboy boots (Old Navy, $18.50 sale price)
5. DIY stick horse (lightbluegrey.blogspot.com)
I actually already have a denim skirt for her, so I don’t need to purchase this one, but it will work perfectly if you don’t already own one. I also planned on making her a stick horse using this tutorial I found a while back from LightBlueGrey, but then my mother-in-law found one at a local Big Lots – which I was grateful for because it will save me time and energy (even though the DIY one is super cute)!
My daughter is already excited about her cowboy boots and “cowboy shirt.” I think this Halloween is going to be a successful (and hopefully tantrum-free) one.
P.S. If you purchase any of these items online from Old Navy, don’t forget to use Ebates to get 2% cash back!
