Until we moved to Colorado a year and a half ago, I had never had a fireplace, therefore I’d never had a mantle. When we got here, I was like, “What the heck am I supposed to put up there?” Which, naturally, led to hours of trolling Pinterest for mantle displays (because there are, like,…
Christmas is in the air! Can you feel it? While I haven’t officially decorated the house yet (that will be happening this Saturday), I’m am already preparing myself for some holiday goodness to explode on my mantel. I’ve got it all mapped out in my head, so it should be a breeze (except it never…
It’s cold and rainy here in Colorado. Technically it’s still summer, but fall is creeping up on us and bringing us a light snowfall in mid-September (what??). I’m already dreading the days of being stuck indoors with 3 kids and no where for them to run free…
So today I’m thinking about finding a project that they can do indoors that will benefit us all and keep us happy amidst the gloomy weather. I pinned a couple of these ideas a while ago for DIY watercolor art from your kid’s creations, and I’m loving the thought of putting them together. Not only will the kids have a blast doing them, but it will keep them occupied (read: mommy stays sane while trying to get some work done), and in the end, I’ll have a new piece of art to hang in our hallway. Everybody wins!
Last week I mentioned that I was working on updating my kitchen, and I started with a DIY wooden rack to hold my aprons. I also made this coffee sign to hang underneath my cabinet, right by the coffee pot. I love how it adds some color and dimension to the bland walls and cabinet color (not my choice, since we rent).
I am working on finishing up my little craft corner in my bedroom (which you will get to see soon, I promise), and this past weekend I made some art for it that I thought I’d share.
I ran across this awesome free printable poster that read “Happiness is a Warm Glue Gun” from ManMadeDIY.com on Pinterest. My husband informed me that this is a play off a Beatles song, “Happiness is a Warm Gun,” to which I was not privy… I just happen to like glue guns; but suddenly I felt like it was a whole lot cooler.
I love “Oh The Places You’ll Go” by Dr. Seuss; the first time I read it to my daughter, I cried. I know, I know, I’m a sentimental fool. But how many of you moms can honestly say it didn’t make you tear up? Ah ha! That’s what I thought.
A while back, I found an adorable oval frame at the flea market for $5. I probably could have talked the lady down, but I’m a horrible negotiator, so I just paid it. Anywhoo, it didn’t have any glass and had a sad wire on the back for hanging (with only one side actually attached to the frame). I’ve held onto it for a while, and recently came across some artwork that sparked an idea in my head.
A while back, my girlfriend found this adorable quote from Winnie the Pooh and asked me to turn it into some artwork for her. She’s very patient, because it took a while before I had time to get to it, but I finally did it and decided to make it available for you all!
