There were some real standouts on last night’s red carpet. I am as convinced as ever that “best dressed” refers to more than just the dress – it’s about the whole look head to toe; the hair, the makeup, the jewels, the shoes, and, of course, the dress.
One major trend on last night’s Oscar red carpet was white and off-white gowns covered in sequins and sparkling jewels. Jennifer Lopez, Octavia Spencer, Cameron Diaz, and Mila Jovovich are just some of the ladies who took to this trend. Gwyneth Paltrow also donned all-white, but her dress was void of jewels. It was a custom Tom Ford with a cape attached at the shoulders that, although a little odd, was sleek and sophisticated. Angelina Jolie looked great in an all-black velvet Atelier Versace gown, even though it was a typical choice for the actress.
But my favorite looks of the night were worn by Michelle Williams (as usual), Emma Stone, and Kristen Wiig.
Michelle Williams is often on my best dressed list, and she’s done it again. Last night she wore a burnt orange Louis Vuitton peplum dress that took over 300 hours to make at the atelier in Paris (according to Instyle.com). I loved the color against her pale skin, and her blonde pixie cut and red lips were the perfect complement.
Emma Stone is on my “most adorable” list, because I just love her humor. Her rant during her award presentation was hilarious. Last night she wore a stunning red Giambattista Valli Haute Couture halter with a tie neck. Although I feel like the tie neck is a thing of the past, she totally pulled it off. Her cat eyes, sleek red hair, and red lips completed the look.
Funny girl Kristen Wiig had a carefree glamourous look on the Oscar red carpet. I loved her tiered tan J. Mendel gown, and how she offset it with simple, beachy waves. Her black nailpolish added a young rebellion to her look, and she kept the jewelry to a minimum with a single diamond bracelet.
I was also really intrigued by Rooney Mara. I’m still not sure how I feel about her look; she is just so unique and one-of-a-kind that I can’t stop staring. On last night’s red carpet, she wore a white lace Givenchy gown with a plunging neckline, which she just picked yesterday morning (according to Instyle.com). Nina Garcia called her “Audrey Hepburn gone punk,” and I think she hit the nail on the head with her description. Rooney has so much innocence emanating from her dimples and her quiet demeanor, yet she always goes bold with jet black hair, stick straight bangs, a tiny frame, and pale white skin. I just can’t get enough of this girl!
So who was your favorite?
