I just finished watching the three-hour long celebration of Hollywood’s best, the 2012 Golden Globe Awards. I love seeing my favorite actors and actresses mingle and interact in their element, and living outside of the roles we watch them play throughout the year. And, of course, I love the fashion.
Here’s my list of best dressed, worst dressed, and all the rest…
most unique & my pick for best dressed
I can generally get behind just about anything that Michelle Williams wears. She is usually in the most unique dress, but something that I think fits her personality, style and body type to a “T” – and then there’s that pixie hair that I covet, but could never wear myself. At the 2012 Golden Globes, she wore a navy beaded dress by Jason Wu (whom I’ve loved since he entered the spotlight by designing Michelle Obama’s Inaugural gown), accessorized with a black headband. She looked demure and adorable, and I loved it.
Hollywood newcomer Rooney Mara (star of “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” for which I wish she would have won Best Actress) was my other pick for best dressed. She kept it simple in black, but her Nina Ricci dress had some unique details and a mixture of fabrics. Kudos to her for not taking the simple route and managing to maintain her mysterious persona in this gown.
most feminine
Reese Witherspoon completely rocked her strapless red dress by Zac Posen. Her dress hit her curves in all the right places, and the deep red color and matching red nails portrayed classic femininity. I also loved Shailene Woodley who showed up in Marchesa. The silver chiffon draping and sequin detail were stunning and reminded me of old Hollywood glamour, even though she is a youngster.
good structure vs. bad structure
Claire Danes is another of my favorite fashionable dressers, and I love the risks she takes on the red carpet. Last night she wore a gorgeous black and white J. Mendel gown with beautiful structure in the shoulders and bodice. Natalie Portman, on the other hand, wore a pink dress by Lanvin whose structure was a little on the weird side. Natalie has worn strongly structured gowns in the past, and although I understand the artistic beauty of the gown, I’m not crazy about it in terms of wearable fashion. It sure did create one large hip for Natalie!
Tons of women wore nude and blush last night and looked beautiful as well, including Charlize Theron, Heidi Klum and Jessica Alba. Black, white and ivory were more popular than the typical red, which was nice to see.
So who was your favorite?
