How was your 4th of July? We had a lot of fun celebrating at our friend’s house; we ate, lit fireworks, watched the kids play on the Slip & Slide, relaxed, ate some more…
Before we went, I made sure to brush up on how to photograph fireworks so I could get some awesome shot. I found this great tutorial from www.merakoh.com that explains what settings to use for fireworks and sparklers. For these photos, I had my camera on manual mode, set to 200 iso, 4 second shutter speed, and F11 aperture:
Aren’t they fun? The drawings with sparklers are my favorite. Be sure and use a tripod or set your camera on a solid surface while shooting. Because your shutter is open for 4 seconds, you have to keep the camera steady the whole time to ensure it won’t get blurry. The sparkler pictures work because you have 4 seconds to write something in the air with them and the camera captures every movement, recording the light almost like a video so when you see the final shot, it’s a complete picture.
I also made the patriotic pudding cups that I mentioned last week, but my yellowish vanilla pudding made the blue layer come out turquoise (they actually look more green in this photo than they did in person). What.A.Bust. Oh well, they were delicious. Scratch that – they still are delicious. I just ate one for a morning snack…
Of course, I can’t let you go without sharing a photo of my little ones. This is my way of shoving my virtual wallet in your face and saying, “look at my kids!”
Hope your 4th was fantastic!
