It’s rather unfortunate that I haven’t been able to share some of the gifts I’ve been making this Christmas, because I know my family and friends would see them on here and it would ruin the surprise… But here’s one I can share that I already gave to my godson and my nephew (who probably hasn’t opened it yet, but he can’t read and I’m pretty sure he doesn’t check my blog, so I think I’m safe).
I found the tutorial for this adorable car caddy on Pinterest (original source: homemadebyjill.blogspot.com) a while ago and knew it would be perfect for the little boys I love. It turned out to be quite simple to make, although I did adjust it the design a bit.
Instead of the car and wheels she has on her website, I googled โcar shapeโ and found this cute bug to use instead.
I also switched out the velcro and belt strap on the front for a button and loop. I wasn’t crazy about the belt strap and the fact that it covered up the car on the front, or the fact that there would be a piece of velcro floating in the middle of the car… so the loop worked a little better. My felt colors were different as well, because I just used what I had on hand. I also didn’t paint numbers on my car spots because I was strapped on time, and let’s face it, feeling a little lazy.
Here’s my finished product:
I picked up some hot wheels at Target for $5 to put inside, and I was all set. Since I already had all the fabric and supplies on hand, this project only cost me the price of the cars. Plus, I know my nephew and godson will each enjoy playing with theirs; and I’m pretty sure their mommies will be happy to have a compact toy that they can throw in their bag and pull out to keep their boys busy at restaurants or wherever.
I call this a Christmas DIY win. (Is that overly-confident?)
