Raise your hand if you have known someone affected by breast cancer. I’m willing to bet just about all of us have our hands raised in painful unison. Watching my aunt die from breast cancer when I was a teenager was heart wrenching. Knowing what she went through was hard enough, but having to watch my uncle, cousins, and my mom mourn her loss with such sadness was terrible. Breast cancer affects us all; families, relatives, friends… and it needs to be erased.
Halloween will be here in approximately one month… so, are you thinking about Christmas yet?? Once Halloween hits, it always seems like a swarm of holidays with Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s shortly following.
If you’re like me, you’ve been stocking up Christmas presents since June. Preparing months in advance is the best way to get great deals and save during the most expensive holiday. Keeping with this theme, several online greeting card retailers are offering great deals on holiday cards if you order in the next couple of weeks.
I LOVE Picaboo. I have made tons of photo books in my day, and theirs is by far the best software and print quality. Their downloadable software offers tons of customization; you can choose all your backgrounds, text, photo placement, etc. I used to be an avid scrapbooker, but gave up on it once I had my daughter, knowing I had neither the time nor the funds to support it. I switched to making Picaboo photo books and used them for 3 different books that I made to document my daughter’s first year of life. I purchased and used Groupons for all three and probably paid $25 total.
When greeting cards jumped to $3.99 and above, I decided a boycott was in order. I can’t justify spending almost $5 on something that gets read and quickly thrown out. I’m pretty sure my gift recipient would rather I spend that $5 on their gift instead of a card, anyways.
I just got back from Target and got all these pens for $1. Do I need 40 pens and 4 sharpies? Probably not; well not today, at least. But someday I’ll use them all up, I’m sure. Plus, with the Mr.
Coupons have become a way of life for me. When you live on a tight budget and try to stretch every dollar, you become addicted to those pennies and dimes you save. And then when I can score an incredible deal and save $5, $10, even $20 on something, watch out!
One of my favorite places to buy clothes for my daughter is Old Navy (particularly the clearance section – I snatched up $0.33 baby sweatpants over Memorial Day weekend!).
Summer is upon us, which means it’s almost garage sale season!
Growing up, my family ALWAYS had garage sales. We made them big family events, inviting my cousins and aunts and uncles. We pooled together all our stuff to create a mega-sale, and then we ate a big meal together at the end of the day to celebrate our earnings. I have very fond memories of those days.
When we wanted to get rid of something in our house, we put it in a “garage sale” box; taking something to Goodwill was completely foreign to me until my adult years. Although preparations can be a hassle, I still firmly believe in selling your used goods as opposed to just giving them away (nothing against you, Goodwill).
If you haven’t had much experience throwing garage sales, or if you’ve tried and been unsuccessful, follow some of these that I’ve picked up over the years (thank you mom). You’ll be rolling in dollar bills in no time.
I love fresh flowers, but I can never justify spending money on something that withers and dies three days later. So I came up with a way to get the most out my money when it comes to buying flowers.
