Here we go again! My favorite options for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day are homemade gifts. Not only because it saves money, but it also (usually) makes for a more meaningful and heartfelt gift (unless you have a “nailed it” internet meme moment). Before we get to this year’s collection of DIY gifts for mom, I’ve got a whole slew of ideas from years past, which you are welcome to peruse:

This year I chose DIY gifts for specific types of moms, because as we all know, every mom is different and unique!
Here are my top 10 picks for DIY gifts for mom this Mother’s Day:
For the cooker/baker:
Anthropologie bookcase
I am IN LOVE with this super simple bookcase from Anthropologie. All you need to make it is a little patience and some pieces of plywood. It would be incredibly cheap and it comes out looking incredibly expensive (the Anthro version was $1400!). How cute would it be to fill it with old cookbooks that you found at the thrift store? If your mom is a baker or loves to cook, this would be the perfect gift.
For the cocktail lover:
Handpainted DIY confetti tumblers
These are another Anthropologie knock-off and so easy and cheap to create! You can find glasses like these at the Dollar Tree (in fact I just bought green-tinted ones for my 30th birthday cocktail party), or even on Amazon. The original DIYer found hers at the thrift store. She used acrylic paint and sealer and – bam – fancy tumblers.
For the homemaker:
Flowery fabric pillow
I love the vintage look of these handmade pillows and I’m sure mom would too!
For the practical mom:
Greeting card organizer
Practical gifts are always the best. One year I gave my mom a takeout menu/coupon organizer (see here), and I love this idea of a greeting card organizer. It would be even more special if you fill it with some pretty cards you find at the store and maybe some printables to help her keep track of special occasions.
For the crafty mom:
FAMILY wooden spoon art
Um, hello cuteness. Not much to say about this other than I love the idea and it would be easy peasy to make!
For the reader:
DIY bookshelf
This is sold on a Japanese website, so you would need to figure out how to DIY it, but it doesn’t look that hard to me! I love the simplicity of the design and if mom is a reader, she will appreciate the new place to stash her favorite books.
For the sentimental mom:
Bottle of memories
Such a sweet idea! Purchase some miniatures from the dollhouse section at Michael’s of things that remind you of your mom; special moments you shared, things she did for you, etc. Then put together a little booklet that explains each item and why you chose it.
For the jewelry lover:
DIY living animal ring dish
As someone who’s misplaced her rings a couple of times, I have recently learned the necessity of having a ring dish where I can always keep them safe. This Anthropologie hack is a great DIY gift for any forgetful mom!
For the gardener:
DIY terrarium kit
How adorable is this terrarium kit? Amanda even gives you the free instructions download on her blog. It doesn’t get much easier!
For the mom who needs a break:
DIY Breakfast brunch basket
This is a lovely way to say “thank you” and “you deserve a little time to yourself.” Put together a breakfast basket with homemade goodies and throw in a newspaper. Then tell mom that you order her to go enjoy some peace and quiet in her favorite spot, wherever that may be.
