Wow. What a year it has been! We had a baby, my husband started a new job and began working from home, my daughter started preschool, I launched a new website… it was nothing short of hectic.
I can’t believe how much I have blogged this year… somewhere around 160 different posts. Who knew I had so much to say? Ok, I talk a lot; I kinda already knew that.
Anyway, here’s a little review of 2012 seen through the eyes of my blog:
Hooray for rain! After an extra-long, extra-hot summer in SoCal, things are finally starting to cool off. Last week we welcomed some rain, and we are supposed to get some more this weekend. I couldn’t be happier!
You know I pulled out all the stops on this rainy day – boots, tights, layering thermal. If I had played a game of strip poker (which, I never would, of course), I would have totally still been fully clothed at the end.
I missed What I Wore Wednesday because of Halloween, so I decided on a whim that today will temporarily be “Fashion Friday.” So here’s what I wore this week:
Last week I was fortunate enough to attend an event at a local outlet center, The Outlets at Orange, where top stores like Last Call by Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom Rack, and Saks OFF 5th shared their thoughts on the top fall trends for 2012.
Mixing prints has always been a favorite of mine, and this look screams feminine. So I went on the virtual hunt for some items to mimic these looks, and here’s what I came up with:
This weekend I went back to my fashion college roots and refashioned an old shirt that I’ve had hanging in my closet forever. As I chopped off the sleeves, I had visions of creating patterns for paper bag pants and showing off with my straight seams in sewing class (yeah, I was that student). It’s been a long time since I used my sewing machine to fix up my clothing; I generally hate hemming, mending, and sewing clothes. But I have had this H&M shirt for a couple of years now, and I was getting really bored with it so I decided it was time for a change.
I haven’t done a What I Wore Wednesday post in a few weeks… mostly because I’m too tired to get outside and photograph myself when the stars align and both kids are simultaneously napping. By that time, I’m usually covered in spit-up and/or breast milk anyway. TMI? Sorry.
Anywho, I finally got around to taking some photos of one of my favorite outfits as of late. Let’s start with my inspiration; the idea came from this photo that I found on Pinterest a few months ago:
Last night I attended an event at my local DownEast Basics for bloggers and went on the hunt for a new outfit. I love the detailing on some of their tops and sweaters, and their full knee-length skirts are a great staple to have in your closet.
I ended up being stuck between a choice of two outfits – should I go librarian or ladies’ luncheon chic?
I was super excited last week to spend a day shopping with my girlfriend; especially since all my clothes were at least a year old and ill-fitting because of my recent pregnancy.
I was desperately in need of pants that fit and some tops that weren’t tight in the midsection – you know, just until I get my six-pack back… (that’s a joke).
We stopped by Anthropologie (usually against my better judgment), and were happy to find that they were having a sale with an additional 30% off their clearance. That’s how I snatched up this dress for only $24; it’s practically unheard of at Anthro! I had visions of pairing the navy stripes with a neon belt, and was thrilled to find this one on clearance at Old Navy the very next day for only $4.95.
This dress has been perfect for our 85-degree, super-humid weather!
I love the color mustard. I am a blonde girl with very, very pale skin, and I just can’t wear traditional yellow – so I compensate with mustard. I can’t wait to incorporate more of it into my summer wardrobe, especially after seeing collages like this one from Our Dream Lives. Stylish ladies in mustard really inspire me! Wait until you see the mustard belt I just bought on clearance for $4.95… It’s my new fave.
