{ Disclosure: I received a free diaper from SoftBums to review; all opinions are my own — full disclosure statement }
Although I haven’t talked about it, I have been cloth diapering with Graham just as I did with both Mia and Lincoln. Back when I first started cloth diapering in 2010, I wrote a whole slew of articles on it. This was mostly because I found it difficult to get my footing in the beginning and I wanted to help others who were intimidated by cloth. You can find those articles here.
Back then, I was enamored with all the cute diaper prints and loved putting Mia in her little pink cloth diapers. Now Graham is lucky if he has one on with working velcro and an insert that isn’t riddled with holes… (poor third child).
I realized the other day that I desperately need to update my cloth diaper stash for poor Graham’s sake. I still have a mish-mash of diapers from both of my older kids, and there’s no rhyme or reason to what I use these days; I just grab whatever’s clean! I need to try some new brands (there are so many new ones since I was last in the market), and give Graham some of his own fresh nappies (check it out, I’m British now).
So I was thrilled when SoftBums approached me about trying out and giving away one of their Omni diapers in their latest color: Midnight Blue. They are releasing this limited edition diaper at midnight on October 30th, just in time for Halloween.
Although the dark blue color and black snaps make it extra spooky, don’t be fooled – this diaper is as cute as ever. Don’t believe me? Check this out:
See. Told ya. (I do credit my adorable 4 month old with adding some of the “cuteness” to this photo)
I am new to SoftBums and haven’t had much of a chance to try the diaper long-term. So while I can’t speak to how well they work, there are some things I’m pretty excited about in the early trial stages:
- Slide2Size Technology: They have a patented Slide2Size system for perfectly fitting leg holes. This means no matter what size your little one is, you should be guarded against leaks – awesome for me, because Graham’s skinny little legs rarely keep leaks at bay in his other cloth diapers. It also means that your newborn can wear these and so can your 2-year-old. This is the first time I’ve seen a cloth diaper that claims to work for all sizes, including newborns!
- Warranty: They offer a 1 year limited warranty on everything they make. The first diapers I bought for Mia were awesome, but in less than a year the PUL on the shells began to crack and they were no longer waterproof. How amazing it would have been if I could have returned/replaced them!?
- Trim Fit: SoftBum diapers look smaller than other cloth diapers because they are made to be ultra trim. A huge bonus for any mom who’s had to put her 2 month old in 3-6 month clothes just so she can fit them over his diaper (true story)…
- Problems Solved: Softbums was created by a mom just like me. She’s had the same problems with other cloth diapers that I have in the past; leakage, poor fit, deterioration. I am excited to use SoftBums and see if she may have actually solved some of my most annoying cloth diaper issues.
- Helpful Information: They give you so much information! If you have any questions regarding cloth diapering, refer to their Information Booklet. I wish I had had this reference when I first started cloth diapering. It has renewed my energy to use cloth with Graham after reading through the effects of disposables on babies, and also brushing up on the cost of disposables vs. the cost of cloth (over $4000 for disposables vs. $500 for cloth from newborn to potty training!).
