Disclaimer: In this post, I have featured menswear looks styled with maternity clothing. If you are not pregnant, I hate you (ok, not really, I love you but I’m just a bit bitter about your normal-sized body), but you can still take some inspiration from this post and the looks I put together – plus, you can still buy the shoes!
Now for a confession… I have worn sweatpants and t-shirts A LOT lately. Like, A LOT.
As I’m sure you’ve noticed, there haven’t been many What I Wore Wednesday posts up in the last couple of months. I think the nausea of pregnancy combined with the tiredness of pregnancy, combined with the comfort of sweatpants has all contributed to my downfall. You would not have wanted to see me these last couple of months. Trust me.
But aside from pregnancy and my whining about it, I am generally in a bit of a fashion funk. Since moving to Colorado, things have changed. Fashion is not much of an interest here (although I did move from Southern California, so I should probably give this state some grace); most people happily walk around in fleece vests and zip-up activewear. I feel like I sort of stand out (the hair certainly doesn’t help) and I don’t gain much inspiration or motivation. Plus, I don’t really go out. Building up friends takes time, and although I have and am continuing to do so, my usual “going-out” scene with the ladies is nonexistent. And since I work from home and spend my days with the kids, I don’t really have a reason to put on wedges and eyeliner.
But recently I resolved to change that (or at least work at it). I’m tired of feeling frumpy, so it’s time to start getting dressed, checking out trends and creating outfits from my wardrobe – something I love and have been neglecting to do – even if I am pregnant.
In honor of my new resolution, I picked up some fashion magazines at the grocery store (imagine that?) and actually got up-to-date on what is happening in the world of fashion. My first and current obsession: Menswear.
I’ve always been drawn to the menswear look, and I am loving that it’s still around and going strong. This season and headed into spring, there’s a heavy emphasis on button-down shirts, oxford flats and the athletic look. Count. me. in.
