I am a huge fan of the belt. If there is one accessory you should own, it’s a good belt (of course, I prefer several of them). They have come in quite handy during pregnancy, but even before I was pregnant, I loved adding them to my outfit.
When I was a kid, belts were either meant to keep my pants up, or to make me feel cool (i.e. a fluorescent one was strung loosely around my hips over a baggy t-shirt during the early ’90s – oh man, that was the coolest). When I hit high school, I remember it being trendy to wear a wide brown belt through your jeans with your tight t-shirt tucked in (cowgirl style).
But these days, belts are used over dresses, skirts, cardigans, tops, you name it, and worn mostly around the natural waist. There is no better way to define your shape and make you look thin than by cinching you in at your smallest part.
Since I own some belts that I like to wear both around my hips and my waist, sometimes they are too long when I try wearing one purchased for my hip length around my waist. Ergo, the knotted belt look. Not only is it functional for those extra long belt tails, but it adds a extra flare to your outfit. I love knotting my belts when I’ve got the extra length, but haven’t always been keen on the best way to do it. Luckily, these ladies show display some lovely ways to do it. I can’t believe how many options there are nowadays, and I think I can figure out how to do most of them… (the last two are the easiest).
