Today I’m super excited to share my latest project in our nursery – starched fabric wall clouds. I only put these clouds on the two walls above the crib, and I’ll be using the same fabric to make some pillows and a cloud/airplane mobile. You can see some of the other ideas I have for the nursery in my inspiration board.
Putting the clouds on the walls was so simple; I used the starch techinque that is all over Pinterest. Have you seen it? The recipe and instructions are easy, and when you are done with the fabric, it peels right off the walls without leaving any damage – a perfect solution for renters!
Here’s how you do it:
1. Cut out your design in fabric of choice and decide where on the walls you want them. I made some markings with a pencil so that when it was time to hang, I would know exactly where to put the pieces.
2. Mix your starch:
Stir 2 TBS cornstarch into 1/4 cup cold water. Add 2 cups of boiling water and stir with a fork or whisk until thickened. Let cool. *FYI: This made just enough for my project size.
3. Using a paintbrush, paint your starch on the back side of your fabric pieces. I put a plastic garbage bag down under my workspace so the starch wouldn’t get on the table; it also made for easy clean-up at the end.
4. Stick your fabric piece to the wall, smoothing out any bubbles with your hand. Use your paintbrush and more starch to go over all the edges and the top of the fabric. Have a wet rag handy and wipe the wall around the edges of the fabric to clean-up any excess starch.
5. Let dry and you’re done!
Soon I’ll be sharing the dresser that my husband and I refurbished for the nursery. I can’t wait for you to see the transformation – I surprised even myself!
