I woke up to a lovely surprise in my inbox this morning. JoAnn Fabrics has launched the Babyville Boutique on their website, which is full of adorable PUL fabrics for making waterproof diaper covers, cute snaps, fasteners, and elastics, and books and patterns for making cloth diapers.
As a cloth diapering mom on a budget, I created my own stash from purchased waterproof covers and handmade cloth liners a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, my waterproof covers began to deteriorate after about a year (read more on that here), and I needed to figure out a new solution. I tried to use the ones I had as a model and make some of my own, but the result was less than satisfactory. Eventually I purchased some more.
I am excited to see that the Babyville Boutique sells all the necessary items for making your own waterproof covers, including fasteners and a pattern book! The video below gives a quick tutorial on how to make your own covers, and it looks so simple! The pattern book includes all the instructions and patterns you will need to make diapers and other waterproof baby items like bibs. The fabrics and accessories also coordinate, and include some adorable print options (a nice change from the solid color PUL offered in JoAnn’s stores).
Cloth diapering is no doubt becoming more popular, but it can also be extremely expensive. The cutest diapers usually cost a pretty penny, making cloth diapering more trendy than budget-friendly. I am so excited to finally see some options for making your own and saving some money in the process. Don’t forget to sign up for JoAnn Fabrics email and use those coupons!
