A while back I found this three-tiered stand on TheCraftingChicks.com and was inspired to make my own for a table centerpiece. We constantly have fruit in the house and I needed something cute to display it on. The Crafting Chicks also used it to display craft supplies, and I’m sure a stand like this will also come in handy at parties!
On a recent trip to the thrift store, I found two metal cake pans and a candlestick that I thought would work well. I decided to stick with only 2 tiers on my stand since finding another sized cakepan at the thrift store might take some time, and I’m what you might call “impatient” when it comes to crafting…
I loved the rustic look of the one on The Crafting Chicks, and therefore knew I didn’t want to paint my cake pans, but leave them as is. I spray painted the candlestick a sunny shade of glossy yellow.
Here’s the glitch… I used Beacon 527 glue, which says it works for metal and glass to secure the candlestick to the pans… but as soon as it dried, the base of the candlestick peeled right off of the bottom pan. I believe the problem may lie in the fact that this pan has a nonstick coating. Hmmm.
Does anyone know if E6000 glue will work on a nonstick surface, or should I look for a new pan without nonstick coating?
In any event, the top tray is secured to the candlestick, so my stand is semi-sturdy for now… at least my bananas have a home.
