We obsess over getting pictures of our kids next to a chalkboard sign stating their grade and what they want to be when they grow up (something they will laugh at us for one day, I’m sure, even though we tell ourselves we are creating memories), find them the perfect first-day-of-school outfit, snap a shot of them in front of the house, their school, with their teacher, with us…, coax them into walking into their new classroom with all the excitement and smiles we can muster, and then shed a million tears on the drive home.
Moving into a new place is a pain in the a**, but it can also be really fun when it comes to decorating. So far I haven’t hung anything on the walls because I have wall-commitment phobia.
I am a crazy wall display person; blank walls drive me nuts and something about stuff on the walls makes a house feel like home. So I’ve been desperately trying to figure out what to hang where, but refusing to commit to anything in particular. Thus, the walls have remained blank. This past weekend I decided it was time to get my butt in gear and hang SOMETHING, so I started in Mia’s room.
A couple of weeks ago, I let you guys know about some of the stylish baby proofing options I had come across and was trying to implement in our new place. We have two sets of stairs (one going up to the 3rd floor and one going down to the basement), and because of our railings and large banisters, the pressure gates weren’t fitting or staying put.
So things have been a little hectic and What I Wore Wednesdays have been hard to come by. First of all, I just barely unpacked all my clothes. Second of all, I cannot find my tripod ANYWHERE. I swear it’s got to be here somewhere… but for now, I had to have my 3 year old take my photos. She did surprisingly well. Although, I had to have her stand on a chair halfway through because I realized the first photos she took were shooting straight up my nose.
I warned you when I started my Coffee Talks that they would be a little too honest – the good, the bad and the ugly of life and parenting, in particular. Although, it seems like I tend to discuss the bad and the ugly more than the good; most likely because I am looking for support and solidarity from my community – and you always deliver!
It’s been forever since I’ve had time to get something new up in my Etsy shop. I’ve been in the process of moving for the last couple of months and just haven’t had the time.
But I FINALLY got something in there that I’ve wanted to make forever.
Ah, the dreaded family photo. Remember how awful they were when we were kids? It was pretty common for mom to order everyone to wear their red sweater and march outside to stand awkwardly by a nice autumn tree (two standing, two crouching) just so you could get a shot of how you’ve grown this year to stuff inside the Christmas letter printed on Christmas stationary. Just me? Oh.
Perhaps your mom was a stickler for matching outfits. Like, say, one of you decided running shorts and a white polo was a good idea, so you all had to follow suit…
This is the first time we’ve lived someplace with stairs. I love that the kids sleep upstairs and we no longer have to tiptoe around the house during naps and post bedtime, but I hate that the kids are OBSESSED with climbing up and down them. I am also totally neurotic and afraid they will fall down to their deaths… but that’s another story of paranoia.
Well I guess it’s time to return to normal life. After a long week of moving out, traveling, and moving in, we are finally settling in and life is gaining back some sense of normalcy. Yesterday was the first time in a couple of weeks that I washed and folded laundry and it almost felt foreign to me (not that I’m complaining about two weeks without laundry).
It’s been awfully quiet here this week, but rest assured – I am still alive.
It’s been a whirlwind of a weekend/week on our journey to move to Colorado (if you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably seen pictoral evidence that I’m still alive – at least there’s always time for posting photos!).
