I have a confession. I just can’t get over the denim on denim trend. I think it’s still “in”… well, I don’t really care cause that’s how I roll, but I am pretty sure it’s still a thing.
It’s one of my favorite casual looks and takes a mere second to throw together.
The weather is finally cooling off here and so I’m starting to transition my wardrobe from summer into fall. The easiest way to do this I find is with sweaters and tights, which pair nicely with summer dresses. And of course I bust out the boots – lots and lots of boots.
Holidays have suddenly become so much more exciting now that we are living semi-small town life. Our neighboring town of Louisville had a great Labor Day parade that had me nostalgic for my childhood, growing up in a small farm town in Michigan. Every year as a child, we would gather on our town’s Main Street and watch the Farmer’s Festival parade. I remember old cars, tractors, and candy – lots of candy.
So things have been a little hectic and What I Wore Wednesdays have been hard to come by. First of all, I just barely unpacked all my clothes. Second of all, I cannot find my tripod ANYWHERE. I swear it’s got to be here somewhere… but for now, I had to have my 3 year old take my photos. She did surprisingly well. Although, I had to have her stand on a chair halfway through because I realized the first photos she took were shooting straight up my nose.
Ah, the dreaded family photo. Remember how awful they were when we were kids? It was pretty common for mom to order everyone to wear their red sweater and march outside to stand awkwardly by a nice autumn tree (two standing, two crouching) just so you could get a shot of how you’ve grown this year to stuff inside the Christmas letter printed on Christmas stationary. Just me? Oh.
Perhaps your mom was a stickler for matching outfits. Like, say, one of you decided running shorts and a white polo was a good idea, so you all had to follow suit…
This is so not me; I rarely buy shoes. I would rather spend my money on clothes, and that’s how it usually happens. But in an effort to put together the perfect outfit for our upcoming family photos, I purchased these little ladies. And, um, I love them.
It’s not all pretty dresses and high heels over here, people. When I take pictures for What I Wore Wednesday, it’s usually one of the days that I was leaving the house and put in some effort to get ready. But most days, I wear jeans and a t-shirt since I spend the day with my kids and work in front of my computer in the comfort of my own home.
Hello, friends! After a long, busy weekend of traveling, I am finally home and have gotten a spare moment to write. Our trip to Colorado was tiring, but I feel so excited and content with our upcoming move. We found some areas we really love and are hoping to find available housing there in the coming months; at which point we will pack up and take off!

One of the most wearable trends that popped up on spring 2013 runways was the bold use of black and white. It was usually seen in thick stripes, but it was also used to create graphic patterns like the Jason Wu design above.
Truthfully, I’m not a huge fan of black and white. I feel like a pop of color is always necessary (for me, anyway), and for some reason I’ve always hated black and white stripes, so that was definitely not going to happen.
This is spring in California, right? Isn’t it supposed to be warm and sunny? This week we had two 94 degree days followed up by a 55 degree day with rain… I am at a loss.
It’s annoying and a little confusing, but it did allow me to get some more use out of this “love” sweater that I bought at the end of winter. So I guess there’s a silver lining after all.
