WIWW: A DIY floral skirt and a baby shower

March 27, 2014 | Leave a Comment

A few weeks ago, I talked about how I started making some of my own maternity clothes because I just wasn’t finding cute ones in the store. I got excited when I saw this cute knee-length, over-the-bump skirt on Cotton and Curls and decided to give it a go. I’m not gonna lie, this skirt…

WIWW: DIY maternity mixed print top

March 18, 2014 | Leave a Comment

After I found the tutorial for the DIY maxi skirt that I featured last week, I started hunting for more DIY maternity clothing tutorials and got nerdily excited to start making some of my own clothes. I found this top on DIYMaternity.com and loved the mix of solid color and floral print. { source: diymaternity.com }…

WIWW: DIY maxi skirt

We are on a little getaway right now in California, which makes me so happy. Not only do we get to visit friends and family, whom we moved away from 6 months ago, but we get to enjoy 80 degree weather as we are still hurdling our way through our first real winter in Colorado.…

WIWW: I need a haircut

February 19, 2014 | Leave a Comment

Another Wednesday, another outfit. I call this “I really need a haircut, and oh, my roots are showing.” I only discovered I needed my hair done a couple of days prior when I was looking in the mirror and happened to lift my hair at the roots and saw about 1.5″ of dark color. Oops.…

WIWW: Menswear-inspired plaid

February 5, 2014 | Leave a Comment

You might recall a couple of weeks ago when I highlighted some menswear looks for the all the pregos out there, since menswear continues to be a big trend going into spring. Well, I decided to take my own advice and put together a dude-ish look for myself utilizing some items I already had and…

WIWW: Hey look, I got dressed!

January 29, 2014 | Leave a Comment

As I mentioned last week, I am in a bit of an overhaul in terms of my style for the new year. I am vowing to quit wearing sweatpants (you know, most days) and start dressing for the day – even if all I do is run errands or pick up my daughter from school.…

Interpreting trends: Menswear for maternity

January 22, 2014 | Leave a Comment

{ source } Disclaimer: In this post, I have featured menswear looks styled with maternity clothing. If you are not pregnant, I hate you (ok, not really, I love you but I’m just a bit bitter about your normal-sized body), but you can still take some inspiration from this post and the looks I put…

WIWW: Plaid scarf and a not-quite bootie

December 4, 2013 | Leave a Comment

I think I can officially say that winter has hit Colorado. After a gorgeous 66-degree day on Monday, the temperature has dropped to 14 degrees today and we’ve got a good 5-6″ of snow on the ground. I took these photos yesterday just as the wind started to pick up and the temperature started to…

WIWW: The simple black dress

November 13, 2013 | Leave a Comment

I’m a strong believer that everyone should have a little black dress that they can fall back on in their closet at all times. I’ve had this dress for probably 4 1/2 years. Even I am surprised that it’s been that long, but I remember because I bought it early in my pregnancy with my…

WIWW: Black and white sweater

October 9, 2013 | Leave a Comment

Happy Wednesday! I feel like the week just started, and yet I can’t wait for it to end. It’s one of those weird hump days. Anyhoo… you may remember me posting a picture of this sweater on Instagram and Facebook a couple of weeks ago. It caught my eye in an Instagram post from the…

I get it. It's a little weird. But the girls I've I get it. It's a little weird.
But the girls I've seen do it best, look adorable.

I think it looks best with an oversized tee or sweatshirt, tennies or slides, and a small crossbody bag.

You can't argue with comfort.

For the record, these are women's sleep shorts that I've had a couple of years from Old Navy. If you buy actual men's boxers, you might consider sewing up the pee pocket 😜

Don't spend a lot on this trend; these shorts are made from the thinnest of fabric and shouldn't cost much. Don't be fooled by a retailer that wants you to spend just because it's trendy.

But if you see some cute boxers and want to give it a go - then do! Bonus - if/when the trend ends, you'll have pajamas on the ready 👏

It's solid weekend wear, but I'm not going out to dinner in it...

Another project down in my son's room! I knew I w Another project down in my son's room!

I knew I wanted some sort of built-in feature in this bedroom, but it was hard to figure out what, because we turned it into an active space where he could run and play and needed a lot of room.

So I settled on a built-in bookcase with the slatted design feature, which I'm in love with!

The best part about it is that if he ever decides to upgrade his bed, the space will also accommodate a full or queen size bed going in the opposite direction. It adds so much interest to this room and hopefully will be here for a long time!

One of the things I love most about DIY projects is figuring out how to make something - it's like a giant puzzle. I saw photos of these slotted wall room dividers on Pinterest and just figured it out as I went. All in all, I had very few hiccups and it only took me a few hours to put together. I think I only cursed once?!? And so I call that an extreme DIY win...

Now that the sports wall, the climbing wall, and the built-in feature are complete, the last thing to do in here is some additional painting. I'm thinking of using a contrasting blue color for the closet doors and back side of the built-in, and perhaps trimming out the window with it as well. Then I need to switch out the light for a fan and this.room.is done 🙌

Details: I used two IKEA billy bookshelves, screwed together and secured to the wall. Then wrapped them in white oak plywood. I ripped down 2x4s into 1.5x1.5" square dowels (heavily sanded!) and used pocket holes on the back side of each to secure to the bookshelf and the 1x4 in the ceiling. It's very sturdy!

This climbing wall took half a day and cost under This climbing wall took half a day and cost under $100!

We are lucky enough to have 13' ceilings in our bedrooms, so a climbing wall seemed to make sense in my son's room as we worked on the remodel.

He is a super active kid with #ADHD, so his room redo has involved lots of activity spaces! Go back in my reels to see past projects and follow to see me finish this up!

I added very subtle striping to the wall to mimic a soccer field and keep things classy. ⚽
