Donut Birthday Party Ideas

June 15, 2017 | Leave a Comment

Each summer I throw a joint birthday party for my boys. Two years ago it was pirate-themed, last year it was all about superheros and this year I wanted something really simple just because of how busy we were going to be at the time. So, naturally, I decided on donuts. Because, what sane person…

Retirement Party: Black, White & Florals

March 17, 2017 | 8 Comments

A couple of weeks ago, my family flew to California for both a family wedding and my mom’s retirement party. That makes two retired parents for me, which is great because it means I don’t have to throw any more retirement parties (ha ha). My dad retired a few years ago, and now my mom…

non-pinteresty birthday party

January 24, 2017 | 1 Comment

I’m declaring “non-Pinteresty” a new word. Somebody call the Urban Dictionary guys. One of my goals for 2017 is to simplify and back off of social media a bit, and I don’t think I’m alone. It seems like moms (and women, in general) are reaching their limit with the fake facade presented on social media – it’s…

Superhero Birthday Party

June 14, 2016 | Leave a Comment

Hard to believe, but another year gone and another birthday party over with. Last year, we celebrated my two boys with a joint birthday party (since both boys’ birthdays are in June) that was pirate themed. This year, we had another joint party but this time we went with a superhero theme. I have so…

Comic Book Popcorn Cones [ printable ]

June 13, 2016 | Leave a Comment

This weekend we had quite the raging party. It was superhero-palooza as we celebrated birthdays for my now four and two year old boys (insert ugly cry here). [ Invite: Nuts & Bolts Paper Co ] In the midst of party decor and food planning, I got the idea to create some popcorn cones that tied…

Art themed birthday party

February 22, 2016 | 1 Comment

I’ve been trying to convince my daughter to do an art party for a couple of years now. She has always loved crafting (she is mine, after all), but up until this year she was too into princesses and mermaids to want to have an art party (view past birthdays parties here). I guess 6…

Pirate Birthday Party

July 1, 2015 | 3 Comments

I’m so used to throwing girl birthday parties… we’ve done mermaids, tea parties – you know, over-the-top girly stuff – and I’ve loved sharing those moments with my little lady. But now that I have two boys who are getting old enough to warrant fun thematic parties, I’m realizing that boy parties can be fun…

Little Mermaid Birthday Party

January 23, 2015 | 1 Comment

I both love and hate birthday parties. I have fun planning them and setting them up, but I also stress myself out and always try to accomplish way too many projects. I think I fared slightly better this year; I only party prepped until about 9 p.m. the night before and had plenty of time to…

Ice cream birthday party

June 9, 2014 | Leave a Comment

Our little man turned two this last week. Hard to believe. Luckily the day came and went and I didn’t go into labor, so he is safe from having to share his birthday with his soon-to-join-us brother. Although they will probably have joint parties for years to come. Sorry, boys.

A very girly tea party birthday

January 27, 2014 | Leave a Comment

This past weekend we finally had Mia’s 4th birthday party, even though her birthday was a couple of weeks ago. I think she prefers it that way, though, since it feels like we are celebrating her all month long! I started planning weeks ago (see my inspiration board here), but didn’t get to everything because…

I get it. It's a little weird. But the girls I've I get it. It's a little weird.
But the girls I've seen do it best, look adorable.

I think it looks best with an oversized tee or sweatshirt, tennies or slides, and a small crossbody bag.

You can't argue with comfort.

For the record, these are women's sleep shorts that I've had a couple of years from Old Navy. If you buy actual men's boxers, you might consider sewing up the pee pocket 😜

Don't spend a lot on this trend; these shorts are made from the thinnest of fabric and shouldn't cost much. Don't be fooled by a retailer that wants you to spend just because it's trendy.

But if you see some cute boxers and want to give it a go - then do! Bonus - if/when the trend ends, you'll have pajamas on the ready 👏

It's solid weekend wear, but I'm not going out to dinner in it...

Another project down in my son's room! I knew I w Another project down in my son's room!

I knew I wanted some sort of built-in feature in this bedroom, but it was hard to figure out what, because we turned it into an active space where he could run and play and needed a lot of room.

So I settled on a built-in bookcase with the slatted design feature, which I'm in love with!

The best part about it is that if he ever decides to upgrade his bed, the space will also accommodate a full or queen size bed going in the opposite direction. It adds so much interest to this room and hopefully will be here for a long time!

One of the things I love most about DIY projects is figuring out how to make something - it's like a giant puzzle. I saw photos of these slotted wall room dividers on Pinterest and just figured it out as I went. All in all, I had very few hiccups and it only took me a few hours to put together. I think I only cursed once?!? And so I call that an extreme DIY win...

Now that the sports wall, the climbing wall, and the built-in feature are complete, the last thing to do in here is some additional painting. I'm thinking of using a contrasting blue color for the closet doors and back side of the built-in, and perhaps trimming out the window with it as well. Then I need to switch out the light for a fan and this.room.is done 🙌

Details: I used two IKEA billy bookshelves, screwed together and secured to the wall. Then wrapped them in white oak plywood. I ripped down 2x4s into 1.5x1.5" square dowels (heavily sanded!) and used pocket holes on the back side of each to secure to the bookshelf and the 1x4 in the ceiling. It's very sturdy!

This climbing wall took half a day and cost under This climbing wall took half a day and cost under $100!

We are lucky enough to have 13' ceilings in our bedrooms, so a climbing wall seemed to make sense in my son's room as we worked on the remodel.

He is a super active kid with #ADHD, so his room redo has involved lots of activity spaces! Go back in my reels to see past projects and follow to see me finish this up!

Another to-do checked off my list for spring break Another to-do checked off my list for spring break room makeover!

I added very subtle striping to the wall to mimic a soccer field and keep things classy. ⚽
