Last week I mentioned that I was working on updating my kitchen, and I started with a DIY wooden rack to hold my aprons. I also made this coffee sign to hang underneath my cabinet, right by the coffee pot. I love how it adds some color and dimension to the bland walls and cabinet color (not my choice, since we rent).
One of my New Year’s resolutions was to start sprucing up my kitchen, and within the first week of the new year, I already have a couple of projects done. Go me!
This DIY wooden rack was my first order of business; it’s something I’ve been wanting to make for quite a long time to hang my aprons on. It was inspired by something I saw at an indie craft fair a while back, and I just kinda winged it – but it turned out pretty good anyway!
I had already picked up the three large nails I used as hangers at the Pasadena flee market a couple of years ago, not knowing what I would use them for. Each is stamped with a different number of significance in our lives (my daughter’s birthday, the year we married, and the day we married).
I’ve been so crazy-busy lately with the launch of I Tried A Pin, prepping for a local craft boutique (sneak peek to come – I may put some of the leftovers up in my Etsy shop after the boutique!), and crafting up some Christmas gifts… Oh yeah, and taking care of two kids, working part time, paying bills, grocery shopping, cooking, and freelancing. But hey, that’s nothing right?
Halloween is two weeks away… and I haven’t put up any decorations. The sad thing is, I have a ton of them just sitting in a bin in the garage, I just don’t have the energy to get them out. What’s with my holiday apathy all of a sudden? I’ll chalk it up to my…
Another DIY success! The Mr. and I spent the better part of the weekend building the DIY factory coffee cart that I shared with you last week. I am in LOVE with the results! The Mr. wasn’t crazy about it being so low in the beginning, but after seeing the finished product and listening to my endless explanations of why its height makes it great, I think he’s changed his tune (I can be very convincing).
My husband and I plan on spending this weekend building this coffee table with plans from the amazing Ana White. If you’ve ever been interested in building your own furniture, Ana has tons of plans and instructions on her website.
I want our table to look pretty similar to the one above, except I think we will be using regular rubber casters because steel ones are so expensive! I did extensive research online, and couldn’t find any below $12 per piece. $12 x 4 wheels plus shipping just isn’t in our budget… So instead, I will probably be picking up some 5″ casters from Harbor Freight Tools for only $6.99 a piece.
I’m totally obsessing over this DIY project that I came across on Apartment Therapy this week. And by obsessing, I mean, I actually dreamt about it. I’ve got it bad, people.
I am such a big fan of the Target $1 section (is that what it’s still called even though they have $2.50 objects?).
This last Christmas I found the perfect wooden manger to add to my existing nativity for only $2.50, and I’ve also scored several vases that I have upcycled with a little spraypaint for only $1. We live on a tight budget and buying home décor is usually last on the list, so when I can take these little shortcuts, I get a little overexcited – just ask my husband.
I recently found a product that saved me from waking up to a screaming toddler in the middle of the night, and I thought it was worth sharing (because no one enjoys that, right?).
Hear that? It’s a huge sigh of relief (and exhaustion) escaping my mouth. Our nursery if finally complete! And at 38 and a half weeks along, I’d say we finished just in time. Although Lincoln will probably sleep in our room for a little while when we first return from the hospital and therefore won’t need his nursery to be move-in-ready, I know I’ll lack the energy and motivation to finish once I have a newborn at home. So let’s take a little tour, shall we?
