Hello, friends! Are you gearing up for Thanksgiving?
I LOVE Thanksgiving. I am a huge fan of turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, rolls… ok, food in general. Not to mention, I love the idea of celebrating all you are thankful for at least one day a year. And I believe it should be spent with family or friends, because really, I think every holiday is better when spent with those you love.
Much like the first snowfall, our first fall season in Colorado has me giddy. I’m making lots of soup, baking pumpkin treats, and turning the fireplace on almost nightly. Boots, mittens and scarves are actually necessities instead of accessories I don to make me feel like it’s fall, even though I am sweating up a storm in my get-up.
So, I recently decided to branch out and submit some designs for a design challenge on Minted.com. If you have ever used Minted, you know that the stationary they sell is top quality and their designs are the cutest around. What makes them so unique is that they sell designs from hundreds of freelance designers, allowing them to offer tons of variety. Designers like myself enter their “design challenges,” and then people can vote on the submitted designs. Based on the votes, Minted decides which designs to sell on their site. Winners get a cash prize, plus commission on any designs they sell thereafter.
I guess it’s a mason jar kind of week since I just talked about making pumpkins and other Halloween decor from mason jar lids on Wednesday. So let’s just continue on with the theme and discuss painted mason jar pumpkins – the perfect craft to do with your child this Halloween/fall. Since Mia loves crafts…
So ever since I purchased some of those Ball vintage blue mason jars about 6 months ago, I’ve become obsessed with them. They are basically all we drink out of anymore, and I use them as vases and to store stuff and just to fill space when necessary because they always look good. But because…
You might remember when I embarked on a 365-day journey to stop yelling at my kids. I vowed to practice keeping my voice down, responding quietly and not letting my anger and frustration get the best of me. I vowed to no longer be a “yeller.”
So here we are: Day 56/365 I still need some serious work. Unlearning a reaction you feel is innate is hard stuff; but I AM improving. I have gone into my room and yelled into my pillow. I have hit the bed. I have walked away. I have started singing “la la la la la” really loud. I have intentionally whispered. And, of course, I have slipped and I have yelled. But my reactions are coming slower, and I am becoming more intentional in what I say and how I say it.
I decided a couple of months ago that it was time to give Mia some chores around the house. After putting it out there on Facebook, I realized that majority of my readers already had their young kids doing chores and I was way behind! I knew we needed to start teaching her some responsibility (and of course, I could use some help around the house, too), and I was hoping that chores would help her gain confidence in her abilities and even help out with some behavioral issues.
Happy Wednesday! I feel like the week just started, and yet I can’t wait for it to end. It’s one of those weird hump days. Anyhoo… you may remember me posting a picture of this sweater on Instagram and Facebook a couple of weeks ago. It caught my eye in an Instagram post from the…
Usually when Mia waltzes into my room at 6:35 a.m., I am none too pleased and tell her to go back to her room until the sun is up (which generally happens around 7:00 a.m.
