The Mombot

Motherhood Simplified.

Take a little time for yourself

May 9, 2017 | Leave a Comment

I am so lucky to be able to work from home, considering I have 3 kids. But anyone who has ever asked me, “how do you do it?” knows that my first response is, “it’s HARD.” I can’t tell you how hard it is to focus day in and day out with little ones who…

I CAN do this.

May 1, 2017 | 1 Comment

My heart is so happy. I had an incredible 5 days away at Craftcation where I created, learned and formed a new strategy for my business going forward. Beyond feeling re-energized, excited and inspired, I feel confident. I feel empowered. Tiffany Han gave our closing keynote and made us repeat these words: “I am a person who…

Retirement Party: Black, White & Florals

March 17, 2017 | 8 Comments

A couple of weeks ago, my family flew to California for both a family wedding and my mom’s retirement party. That makes two retired parents for me, which is great because it means I don’t have to throw any more retirement parties (ha ha). My dad retired a few years ago, and now my mom…

non-pinteresty birthday party

January 24, 2017 | 1 Comment

I’m declaring “non-Pinteresty” a new word. Somebody call the Urban Dictionary guys. One of my goals for 2017 is to simplify and back off of social media a bit, and I don’t think I’m alone. It seems like moms (and women, in general) are reaching their limit with the fake facade presented on social media – it’s…

A look back at 2016

January 2, 2017 | 1 Comment

This year seemed to come and go quickly; probably because I was so busy for most of it. Slowing down has never been my strong suit, and I’m actually learning that it’s a real problem for me! But in the midst of work and raising kids and new hobbies and new commitments, I feel like…

#weekendgoals

December 30, 2016 | 1 Comment

Let’s talk about my major vacation fail. I had so many plans to get on the blogging train while I was on my week and a half “vacation.” But then Christmas came, and then Christmas clean-up came. And now New Year’s is almost here. And, well, it just didn’t happen. So here I am with…

Date Night: Small Town Holiday Outing

December 1, 2016 | 1 Comment

Disclosure: Some goods and services were provided to me for free in order for me to experience Old Town Parker. But all opinions, musings and holiday melo-drama are entirely my own. When I was young, my family lived in a small farm town in Michigan. We moved when I was six, so my memories are scarce, but…

A Better Tomorrow

November 11, 2016 | 3 Comments

What a crazy week. I’ve been fairly quiet on social media this week ever since the election (unless you are friends with my personal Facebook profile, in which I shared plenty of opinions); just taking it all in and trying to recoup. The week started with my husband leaving for a work trip, so I…

November 4, 2016 | Leave a Comment

Sigh. Man, these last few weeks have been BUSY. My husband is finishing up a big project at work that he will deliver in early January, so he is working a lot of long days and late nights. And I got a 4000 piece wholesale order that has kept me in front of my binding…

A Woodland Halloween: Lumberjack, Doe & Fox Costumes

November 1, 2016 | 2 Comments

I’ve said many times on this blog, “I don’t like Halloween.” But man, this year was so.much.fun. My kids continue to teach me that there is joy in so many little things. And taking them trick-or-treating this year was a blast. The Mr. and I both thought that this year seemed like the first “real”…

I get it. It's a little weird. But the girls I've I get it. It's a little weird.
But the girls I've seen do it best, look adorable.

I think it looks best with an oversized tee or sweatshirt, tennies or slides, and a small crossbody bag.

You can't argue with comfort.

For the record, these are women's sleep shorts that I've had a couple of years from Old Navy. If you buy actual men's boxers, you might consider sewing up the pee pocket 😜

Don't spend a lot on this trend; these shorts are made from the thinnest of fabric and shouldn't cost much. Don't be fooled by a retailer that wants you to spend just because it's trendy.

But if you see some cute boxers and want to give it a go - then do! Bonus - if/when the trend ends, you'll have pajamas on the ready 👏

It's solid weekend wear, but I'm not going out to dinner in it...

Another project down in my son's room! I knew I w Another project down in my son's room!

I knew I wanted some sort of built-in feature in this bedroom, but it was hard to figure out what, because we turned it into an active space where he could run and play and needed a lot of room.

So I settled on a built-in bookcase with the slatted design feature, which I'm in love with!

The best part about it is that if he ever decides to upgrade his bed, the space will also accommodate a full or queen size bed going in the opposite direction. It adds so much interest to this room and hopefully will be here for a long time!

One of the things I love most about DIY projects is figuring out how to make something - it's like a giant puzzle. I saw photos of these slotted wall room dividers on Pinterest and just figured it out as I went. All in all, I had very few hiccups and it only took me a few hours to put together. I think I only cursed once?!? And so I call that an extreme DIY win...

Now that the sports wall, the climbing wall, and the built-in feature are complete, the last thing to do in here is some additional painting. I'm thinking of using a contrasting blue color for the closet doors and back side of the built-in, and perhaps trimming out the window with it as well. Then I need to switch out the light for a fan and this.room.is done 🙌

Details: I used two IKEA billy bookshelves, screwed together and secured to the wall. Then wrapped them in white oak plywood. I ripped down 2x4s into 1.5x1.5" square dowels (heavily sanded!) and used pocket holes on the back side of each to secure to the bookshelf and the 1x4 in the ceiling. It's very sturdy!

This climbing wall took half a day and cost under This climbing wall took half a day and cost under $100!

We are lucky enough to have 13' ceilings in our bedrooms, so a climbing wall seemed to make sense in my son's room as we worked on the remodel.

He is a super active kid with #ADHD, so his room redo has involved lots of activity spaces! Go back in my reels to see past projects and follow to see me finish this up!

I added very subtle striping to the wall to mimic a soccer field and keep things classy. ⚽

Stick around to see the next project - a climbing wall!
