DIY Stenciled Concrete Floors: Laundry Room Update Part 1

September 27, 2018 | 3 Comments

When we first moved into our house 3 years ago, I couldn’t believe the size of our laundry room – It was so spacious! In fact, it was almost too big; I had no idea what to do with it. At first, it was a catch-all storage room with bad lighting. It took a couple…

Our IKEA mudroom benches, 3 years later

April 11, 2018 | Leave a Comment

When we moved into our home 3 years ago, one of the first things we did was build a mudroom bench by the front door. With a family of 5 and seasonal weather, we knew we needed a place for shoes, hats, jackets, gloves, scarves and backpacks. I hacked some IKEA benches and created the…

Impromptu Fun Family Holiday Activities

December 12, 2017 | Leave a Comment

As the holidays approach and we make our way through our Christmas Advent calendar, I see the kids eyes light up each night just hoping there is a “fun” card inside the envelope. Along with bible verses relating to the Christmas story, I also have some fun activities planned that I stuff in a few…

Party Animal: Adult Halloween Costume Idea

October 31, 2017 | 5 Comments

I don’t generally get dressed up for Halloween. I mean, after all the blood, sweat and tears that I spend on creating costumes for my 3 kids each year, I’d rather just admire my hard work on them instead of worrying about myself… not to mention, there is rarely time to think about what I’m…

Free Pumpkin Carving Stencils Your Kids Will Love

October 19, 2017 | 1 Comment

Oh, pumpkin carving. I avoided it for SO many years. When the kids were young, I convinced them that painting or coloring their pumpkins would be SUPER FUN. And it totally worked (see here)… for a while. Now that they are older, we have started actually carving our pumpkins like normal people. My husband loathes this activity.…

DIY Lego Ninjago Costume

September 14, 2017 | 1 Comment

I’m guessing if you’ve got an elementary-aged boy in your home you know ALL about NINJAGO. And you probably also know that there is LEGO NINJAGO movie coming out September 22nd. A movie which, if I’m being honest, I have no problems going to see with my five year old. I took him to see…

Letters To Grandma & Grandpa – New Product!

July 4, 2017 | Leave a Comment

Yesterday I launched a new product in my shop that I’ve been working on for a while, and I’m calling it “Letters to Grandma & Grandpa.” Have you got grandparents near or far who love updates from your family and kids (or a parent deployed, or godparents who feel out of the loop, or aunts/uncles…

Documenting Summer with My Kid’s Quote Journal

June 30, 2017 | Leave a Comment

We’ve already had quite a few adventures this summer, partly because my kids were done with school in mid-May – but we also just happened to plan a lot of summer activities for the first full month of summer. After a quick visit to our house from Grammy & Papa (who live in California), we all…

Donut Birthday Party Ideas

June 15, 2017 | Leave a Comment

Each summer I throw a joint birthday party for my boys. Two years ago it was pirate-themed, last year it was all about superheros and this year I wanted something really simple just because of how busy we were going to be at the time. So, naturally, I decided on donuts. Because, what sane person…

Hello World! Girl Birth Announcement

June 6, 2017 | Leave a Comment

Every once in a while, I get an order for a birth announcement in my shop and I gasp when I see the photo. Man, babies are CUTE. And I love seeing the talent of newborn photographers. This was the case with sweet little Giuliana’s photo. Her mom chose my “Hello World” birth announcement, which…

I get it. It's a little weird. But the girls I've I get it. It's a little weird.
But the girls I've seen do it best, look adorable.

I think it looks best with an oversized tee or sweatshirt, tennies or slides, and a small crossbody bag.

You can't argue with comfort.

For the record, these are women's sleep shorts that I've had a couple of years from Old Navy. If you buy actual men's boxers, you might consider sewing up the pee pocket 😜

Don't spend a lot on this trend; these shorts are made from the thinnest of fabric and shouldn't cost much. Don't be fooled by a retailer that wants you to spend just because it's trendy.

But if you see some cute boxers and want to give it a go - then do! Bonus - if/when the trend ends, you'll have pajamas on the ready 👏

It's solid weekend wear, but I'm not going out to dinner in it...

Another project down in my son's room! I knew I w Another project down in my son's room!

I knew I wanted some sort of built-in feature in this bedroom, but it was hard to figure out what, because we turned it into an active space where he could run and play and needed a lot of room.

So I settled on a built-in bookcase with the slatted design feature, which I'm in love with!

The best part about it is that if he ever decides to upgrade his bed, the space will also accommodate a full or queen size bed going in the opposite direction. It adds so much interest to this room and hopefully will be here for a long time!

One of the things I love most about DIY projects is figuring out how to make something - it's like a giant puzzle. I saw photos of these slotted wall room dividers on Pinterest and just figured it out as I went. All in all, I had very few hiccups and it only took me a few hours to put together. I think I only cursed once?!? And so I call that an extreme DIY win...

Now that the sports wall, the climbing wall, and the built-in feature are complete, the last thing to do in here is some additional painting. I'm thinking of using a contrasting blue color for the closet doors and back side of the built-in, and perhaps trimming out the window with it as well. Then I need to switch out the light for a fan and this.room.is done 🙌

Details: I used two IKEA billy bookshelves, screwed together and secured to the wall. Then wrapped them in white oak plywood. I ripped down 2x4s into 1.5x1.5" square dowels (heavily sanded!) and used pocket holes on the back side of each to secure to the bookshelf and the 1x4 in the ceiling. It's very sturdy!

We are lucky enough to have 13' ceilings in our bedrooms, so a climbing wall seemed to make sense in my son's room as we worked on the remodel.

He is a super active kid with #ADHD, so his room redo has involved lots of activity spaces! Go back in my reels to see past projects and follow to see me finish this up!
