If you were around earlier this year, you may remember when I started selling the “Capture the Little Moments” scrapbook & journal for 2014. I designed it as an easy way to keep up with documenting life throughout the year. I’ve been using it throughout 2014 and guess what? It’s working! I am actually keeping up with printing photos and journaling our goings-ons during each month. This is a HUGE accomplishment for me!
Because of Graham’s upcoming arrival, I decided a few months back that I wanted to create and sell baby books in a similar style.
I did plenty of research before deciding on the layout and what to include in the baby books, but I mostly included what I knew I would want in my own and what I felt was lacking from those currently on the market. All the books I had seen in the past – and even the ones I purchased for my previous kids – were generic, included lengthy pages to fill out and maintain and didn’t make recording milestones easy.
I figured the best way to keep it up-to-date was by creating a book with pages dedicated to each month so I could jot things down as they happen or at least fill them in every 30 days while they were still fresh in my mind.
So these books are modern and simple in design, as well as easy to keep up with. There’s a page for each month, one through twelve, with a spot to paste a photo and space to document some of the milestones that month – I even give you prompts to help you out (i.e. sleeping/eating habits, new foods tried this month, daily routine…)!
Each book also includes some traditional pages like a family tree, a spot for the birth announcement, all about pregnancy and the birth, footprints/handprints, and so on. I’ve also included blank pages in the back so you can include anything you feel I missed, as well as an envelope adhered to the back cover to hold extra mementos like photos, cards, etc.
So far, I am loving Graham’s book. It only took me a few minutes to jot down what’s happening this month and I’m using my home printer to print out his monthly photo so I don’t even have to bother with getting it printed elsewhere and picking it up. I’m all about simplicity.
I still need to write a letter to him and fill in the details of his birth story, but I’m waiting until my hormones settle down a bit lest I leave his baby book smeared from my pathetic mommy tears.
