This Christmas is truly a DIY holiday for my family. The budget is tight and my project list is growing. Not only am I making several of my gifts this year (which I enjoy, and love to give anyway), but I have also found tons of Christmas decorations that I am looking forward to making… whether or not I actually find time to make them remains to be seen.
Decorating the house for Christmas is one of my favorite things to do each year. I love everything about Christmas; giving gifts, listening to Christmas music, looking at Christmas lights, drinking hot chocolate with peppermint peeps… Decorating the house really kicks off the season and brings the spirit of the holiday home. I’m planning on starting this weekend with putting up decorations and tackling some of the following DIY projects.
Peace, Joy Christmas paper lights
These gorgeous lights made of parchment paper are actually sold by Hannah Nunn, but I’m thinking I can recreate the look on my own by printing the letters on parchment paper or cardstock and wrapping them around a strand of lights. It will look lovely on my bookshelf if I can pull it off!
Tomato cage Christmas trees
These would look so awesome in my front yard. I can’t believe how simple they are, and that I never thought of doing it before.
Burlap Christmas tree pillow
I’ve never made holiday-specific throw pillows, but this may just be the year to bust some out. I love burlap, so I was instantly drawn to these. Cute and simple.
I’ve already got stockings for our family, but I always forget which belongs to who. So I was so happy to come across this idea of adding initials. All I need are some wooden letters and some glitter, and I’m good to go.
Front door holiday hanging
Instead of making a wreath this Christmas, I think I’m going to save some money by using the extra trimmings from the Christmas tree to make a door hanging similar to this one. I’ll just grab some of the ornaments we own and some satin ribbon and voila! (Hopefully it’ll look half as cute as this one).
